HJI statement on the catastrophe in Gaza
There is a humanitarian and health catastrophe in Gaza (Occupied Palestinian Territory).
The deliberate targeting of health care providers and health facilities, including evacuation orders, and the blocking of the provision of life saving services, medical supplies, water, fuel, food, and aid for civilians is creating a health and humanitarian catastrophe that amounts to war crimes.
The HJI supports the widespread and global calls for, among others, an URGENT ceasefire and humanitarian truce, to also include the “continuous, sufficient and unhindered” provision of lifesaving supplies (as voted on by a majority of countries at the UN General Assembly on 26 October 2023).
We also support the call for an end to Israel’s colonial and apartheid occupation of Palestine.
The international health community has a duty to act.
A genocide is unfolding.
