Climate & Health

Climate change is increasingly worsening not only the ability of health systems to respond to communities’ health needs, but also the public health outcomes of the most marginalised people both within countries and between North and South. The Health Justice Initiative (HJI) is facilitating knowledge-sharing and kick-starting collective action from groups representing the marginalised in the Global South to tackle the climate-related health effects that are already being felt around the world, as well as to advocate for greater African agency in mitigating these risks.

In April 2023 HJI convened the first of what we hope will be ongoing gatherings of Global South groups in the access to medicines and health justice movements, to facilitate the exchange of learning and strategies between these movements.
