Universal Health Coverage
The Health Justice Initiative (HJI) aims to influence the development and implementation of National Health Insurance (NHI) in South Africa, ensuring equitable access to healthcare services and medicines. We highlight the importance of fair pricing and access to medicines under the NHI framework, challenging barriers such as patent monopolies that restrict affordability. HJI’s work aims to ensure that the NHI effectively addresses health disparities and promotes universal healthcare coverage across South Africa, emphasising transparency and accountability in health governance.

In addition to advocating through research, policy submissions, and public engagements and workshops, HJI maintains a library of policy documents, submissions, and other materials relating to the National Health Insurance.
